Calista Chua, M.Couns

Calista is an accredited social worker and counsellor who endeavours to effect change, one step at a time.

Since a teenager, Calista has developed a passion for helping others after being exposed to several missionary trips and the humanitarian works of Mother Teresa. This has led to the start of her social work career since 2014 before pursuing a Master of Counselling (Advanced) with Swinburne University of Technology. In the past decade, Calista has worked with various clientele groups and issues in the community/social service and healthcare settings. She is currently a Palliative Medical Social Worker and Counsellor, which has continued to allow her grow professionally through the ongoing learning journey.

Even though Calista has been practising as a social worker, counselling has remained one of the core roles and duties she has performed over the years. The experiences gained from social work have provided her an added advantage when she wears the hat of a counsellor, allowing her to better appreciate and empathise with the uniqueness of each individual she works with and their struggles in context to their environment or circumstances through a non-judgemental lens. As such, she prefers to adopt an integrated counselling approach when working with clients that is individualised to them, as there is no "one size fits all" solution.

Some comments left by previous clients:

" Calista is empathetic and understanding, taking time to understand my situation and identify my needs. She helped me to realise that I do not have to be the same person that 'comes naturally' to me from the way I was raised. I feel more hopeful for the future."
— on family domestic issues
" Therapist was patient in trying to understand me and ask questions to help me understand the issue"
— on career work performance, anxiety/stress, burn out and esteem issues.
" Had an insightful and genuine session with Calista: she gave nothing but assurance on what I was doing well in, solutions on what could be improved, and never let any moral or personal bias come in the way how I could make things better"
— on relationship marriage, panic attacks issues
